The Mechanical Designer/Drafter is responsible for creating a 3D models of products in modeling software. The Mechanical Designer/Drafter create these models from scratch and also update existing models. A few of the main duties of a The Mechanical Designer/Drafter are creating models in CAD, help design new products, create standard models, and edit any changes based on customer preference. The Mechanical Designer/Drafter also have to specify correct dimensions and material. One of the most important skills that a Mechanical Designer/Drafter will have is their ability to correctly create the model needed.
Mechanical Designer/Drafter Responsibilities:
- Ability to interpret customer specifications and understand method of fabrication outlined in estimate for incorporation into mechanical drawings.
- Drafting mechanical fabrication drawings.
- Knowledge of basic material specifications to the extent all information requirements for material purchase, fabrication and construction are reflected on the finish drawings.
- Performs drafting operations for the determination of project plans and collects data for Project designs.
- Prepares complex drawings for engineering projects.
- Develops and drafts fabrication drawings and plans, drafts contract documents and generates correspondence for clients and managers.
Mechanical Designer/Drafter Requirements:
- Associate’s Degree in Drafting/Design or related field.
- Must have a solid understanding of AutoCAD Drafting software.
- Experience with completing basic facility field walk down notes and reducing those notes to drawings in.
- Computer-aided design software.
- Ability to prepare changes in drawings following established techniques/procedures.
- Technical and fabrication knowledge capacity.
- Written and verbal communication proficiency.
- Thoroughness and attention to detail.
