Medical Coder Associate

vThe Medical Coder Associate work for healthcare facilities where they convert patients' information to standardized codes, which are used on documentation for healthcare insurance claims and for databases. The Medical Coder Associate assist practitioners to receive reimbursement from healthcare insurance companies. The Medical Coder Associate utilize coding resources along with any other applicable specialty reference material to ensure accurate coding. The Medical Coder Associate resolves basic coding edits and completes charging process. Also clarifies discrepancies in documentation and coding. The Medical Coder Associate Assures accuracy and timeliness of code assignments required to expedite the billing process and to facilitate data retrieval for physician access and ongoing patient care.

Medical Coder Associate Responsibilities:

• Complete work assignments in a timely manner and understand the workflow of the department. Maintain daily productivity statistics and submit a productivity sheet to management.
• Identify incomplete documentation in the medical record and formulate a physician query to obtain missing documentation and/or clarification to accurately complete the coding process.
• Utilize computer applications and resources essential to completing the coding process and to resolve basic coding edits efficiently.
• Refer problem accounts to appropriate coding or management personnel for resolution.
• Meet and maintain charge lag and coding productivity standards within the time frame established by management staff.
• Adhere to internal and system-wide competencies, behaviors, policies and procedures to ensure efficient work processes.
• Actively participate in monthly coding meetings and share ideas and suggestions for operational improvements.
• Maintain continuing education by reviewing updated coding clinics.

Medical Coder Associate Requirements:

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
• Proficient computer skills with MS excel knowledge.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Solid experience in technical coding.
