The Patient Access Virtual Assistant is the first point of contact in healthcare facilities, helping patients with the administrative aspect of gaining access to medical treatment. The Patient Access Virtual Assistant is responsible for guiding patients through the intake process by screening patients for eligibility, preparing patient information for clinical staff, and answering patient questions. The Patient Access Virtual Assistant also prepares patients with admission information, processes them during admission, and guides them through discharge. The Patient Access Virtual Assistant interviews incoming patients during admission and also accepts insurance information and communicates with coverage providers.
Patient Access Virtual Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide front-door customer service to patients and orient patients to the registration/admission process.
- Perform scheduling functions of new and follow-up patients and discharges patients accordingly.
- Responsible for identifying, collecting, and reconciling patient liabilities on a routine basis.
- Complete and handle all registrations in accordance with the registration policy. Follows all policies and procedures.
- Obtain all required information in order to accurately complete registration (i.e. authorization, referral, diagnosis, Physician name, room #, any clinical information, etc.)
- Assure patients are given all required information such as copies of signed consents, the patient guide book for inpatients, falls prevention for outpatients.
- Ensure all patients are properly identified by Name, Date of Birth, and Social Security number at the start of each registration to assure the correct medical record number is assigned, and the patient is given the correct armband.
Patient Access Virtual Assistant Requirements:
- A High School Diploma, or equivalent.
- Solid experience in admitting, registration, or hospital billing experience, or working knowledge of registration, insurance, and billing.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance.
- Must have customer service and communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, and experience in data entry.
- Ability to quickly assess and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
